HeyrexVet: The top 20 use-cases for clinics
HeyrexVet is a portal that collects and displays data from your patients 24/7.
It runs automatically, does not require any additional resource to manage, and is free for your clinic to use.
From both a business and clinical standpoint, HeyrexVet has potential to deliver significant benefits to your clinic or hospital.
The Business Benefits to Your Clinic.
You’ll engage with your clients on a new level.
Clients will love sharing their Heyrex app results with you. You can view its accurate data together to track their dog’s progress and treatment plans. What’s more, you can personally assess each dog’s HeyrexVet chart 24/7, receive notifications and communicate any interesting or worrying findings you’re seeing to the owner (before they even notice any symptoms). This proactive approach will set your practice apart and strengthen customer loyalty.
You’ll improve
client compliance and encourage re-visits.
Utilising Heyrex
data is a great way to ensure compliance and regular follow-up visits. In many
cases, your clients will notice a change on their Heyrex app, and book a
re-visit to address it. Their Heyrex app also has a diary function reminding
them of due dates for vaccinations, fleas/worming etc. As mentioned above, your
clinic can also reach out to clients if you notice something on their HeyrexVet
chart that needs attention.
You’ll have
an extended view of your patient’s history.
Heyrex data
will give you insights into your patient’s progress and history over any time
period (i.e a day/week/month or years). For example, you can view how their
mobility compares to the same time last month, last year, or 3 years ago. This
information can be shared with your client to demonstrate efficacy of
treatments.
You’ll be
able to create new programmes (and revenue streams).
Having
access to your clients’ at-home data can open up exciting new opportunities for
your clinic. You could use Heyrex to launch new clinic initiatives, wellness or
exercise programmes for your clients and their dogs. Whether it’s a weight loss
bootcamp, clinic-wide exercise challenge, or ‘ditch the itch’ support group,
the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!
HeyrexVet: the clinical applications.
The benefits of Heyrex monitoring have been proven across a range of clinical scenarios including: weight and exercise management, cage rest/compliance, post-operative recovery, skin allergies/pruritus, osteoarthritis, lameness, mobility, and responses to treatment.
We cover these in more detail below.
Diet, Exercise & Weight Management
Ø Monitor exercise and activity for weight loss.
Heyrex allows you and the owner to measure the dog’s daily activity in a very precise way. It will also help you engage owners in their pet's obesity management, by providing an excellent incentive to get their dogs (and themselves!) moving more frequently and reporting their results.
Ø Ensure correct amount of exercise for age & breed.
Owners are often unsure about
the amount of exercise their dog needs, especially for very young or old dogs. Via
Heyrex, you can educate owners around the correct amount of exercise for their
dog’s specific breed and age, and make adjustments over time.
Compliance with Cage Rest & Activity
Ø Monitor compliance post-surgically for cases requiring strict cage rest, decreased to no activity, or increased rest.
For surgical procedures that
require a degree of confinement and/or strict rest, HeyrexVet will be able to
detect whether your client is following your instructions. Ideal for
orthopaedic cases, post-neutering and patients undergoing rehabilitation such
as hydrotherapy or physiotherapy.
This feature is particularly valuable for orthopaedic procedures that require
strict cage rest, allowing you to track compliance.
Ø Monitor compliance
post-surgically for slowly increasing exercise (e.g. cruciate surgery), or where
exercise is encouraged (e.g. FHO).
In procedures where strict rest is required, typically followed by gradually
increasing the amount of exercise week by week, Heyrex will help both you and
the client get the amount of activity right. Also useful in certain orthopaedic
procedures (such as a femoral head osteotomy) where exercise is encouraged
directly post-op.
Treating Pruritic Patients
Ø Monitor increases in
pruritus that may indicate a medical or parasitic issue (e.g. allergy or fleas).
The Heyrex monitor is particularly sensitive at accurately recording any
episodes of pruritus a dog may have. Increases in pruritus are very easy to
spot on the day-to-day and week-to-week graphs, and an alert will be sent to
the client if there is a dramatic increase in a dog’s level of pruritus. This
particular feature could help to pick up anything from external parasites to a
contact or food allergy, or an anal gland issue.
Ø Measure response to
medication and/or nutrition in the short-term.
For cases of pruritus where a medication or diet has been prescribed, the
efficacy of this treatment can be assessed in the short-term in a per-day or
per-week format. An effect can often be seen hours after a medication in some
instances.
Ø Measure response to medication and/or nutrition in the long-term.
For pruritus cases where a medication or diet has been prescribed, the efficacy
and treatment of the products can also be assessed over the period of several
months. This can be helpful when tapering a dose of steroids to the lowest
possible dose, or when attempting to wean a dog off dermatological medications
altogether. Any increase in pruritus will quickly be detected by the Heyrex device.
Osteoarthritis & Lameness
Ø Detect the early signs of lameness
and osteoarthritic disease.
An increase in sleeping and rest alongside a decrease in activity, could be a
sign of an osteoarthritic disease in dogs of any age. While many instances of
lameness are obvious for an owner to see, more subtle lameness may be
identified after noticing a decrease in activity and an increase in rest on the
dog’s Heyrex chart.
Ø Measure response to
medication and/or nutrition in the short term.
For the post-operative care and treatment of orthopaedic patients, or for patients with an osteoarthritis disease or a syndrome that requires immediate pharmaceutical or nutritional assistance, the amount of activity and rest undertaken by the dog gives an indicator as to the efficacy of treatment.
The Heyrex monitor is also ideal for ensuring that any pain medication or anti-inflammatory drugs are having the optimum effect.
Ø Measure response to
medication and/or nutrition in the long term.
Similarly, Heyrex is also very useful in the longer-term treatment of certain
osteoarthritic diseases that require ongoing pain management, anti-inflammatory
drugs and appropriate nutrition. The effects of these drugs and/or diets can be
assessed on a long-term, week-by-week and month-by-month basis.
Ageing & Behavioural Issues
Ø Monitor changes in
activity/rest that may indicate an improved or worsening behavioural condition.
By having an accurate daily record of when a dog is active (as well as the
intensity of the activity), resting or sleeping, behavioural issues such as
separation anxiety, territorial aggression and problem barking become easier to
identify. This is particularly useful for clients who aren’t at home during the
day. For example, if a dog is extremely active while the owner is at work, this
may indicate pacing a fenceline (territorial aggression), or destructive
behavior secondary to separation anxiety.
Ø Assessing effectiveness of
behavioural training and/or therapies.
Monitoring of daily activity, rest and sleep can also track the effectiveness
of a training and enrichment programme. If medication is necessary to assist a
behavioural issue, this can also be assessed on a daily or weekly basis.
Ø Accurately detect increased
rest and/or decreased activity that may indicate an internal organ issue, or
brain ageing in an older dog.
An increase in rest and/or sleep can often be associated with an internal organ
issue or canine brain ageing. Issues like canine brain ageing may also show erratic
sleep patterns, with increased sleep and rest during the day, and an increased
activity at night. Heyrex can notify you of these changes, leading to an easier
diagnosis. In cases where activity is reduced and sleep/rest is increased, but
the dog does not seem lame or isn’t reluctant to move, further investigation
including a full physical exam and blood test would be warranted.
Ø Aid trainers and
institutions with therapy, service or working dogs.
A number of professional and government organisations around the world have
previously used Heyrex to monitor their dogs’ ongoing work performance,
efficiency and rest frequency. Heyrex can help to identify individual dogs whose
performance is declining or variable to the group. In turn, this can help
identify any issues (clinical or behavioural) that may require treatment.
Monitoring Ambient Temperature
Ø Assess ambient temperature
for patients wearing a Heyrex while hospitalised.
Having hospitalised patients wearing the Heyrex monitors not only gives a
clinician information about the amount of rest and activity each dog is
getting, but also ensures the ambient temperatures they are subjected to are
measurable and appropriate.
Ø Gauge the overall
fluctuations in ambient temperature a dog has been exposed to over a given time
frame.
A temperature gauge within the Heyrex device measures the ambient temperature
each dog is exposed to over time. This will tell you whether a dog has been
subjected to excessively hot environments (e.g. left in a car) or excessively
cold environments (stuck outside on a cold winter’s day). In extreme cases of
high or low ambient temperatures, Heyrex will issue a notification warning. Recording
ambient temperature over time can also help investigate certain issues (e.g. by checking
ambient temperature alongside episodes of pruritus).
Those are just some of the clinical applications available via Heyrex2 and HeyrexVet.
